This exterior French door on the back of the house absorbed a lot of moisture over an extended period of time causing significant damage. It’s hard to tell the damage from this stage but just wait till you see the following pictures.

We start by removing the existing pre-hung French door. See the prybar at the top of the jamb?

Yep. Starting to see more damage.

You can now see what damage a little water can do over time. We removed all the rot and re-built the framework for the new doors.

This project involved removing a section of the deck to gain access to additional repairs. You can see new pressure treated lumber installed as part of the framing. Additional framing was installed under the floor through the crawlspace.

We installed a new, pre-hung French door, plate, flashing and some siding. The wall was wider that the jamb so we needed to install some custom shimming. We also needed to install supports for the flooring from the crawl space. For added protection, we oil primed the pressure treated plate.

Repairs are done and read for paint. Deck re-assembled.
